Green Chain

Above, finished rough lumber exits the sawmill by way of the green chain where the lumber is pulled by hand into appropriate units. A unit is a stack of lumber made up of pieces of a specific size. An example would be a 2"x4" unit which consists of 180 pieces.

Timbers, which can be as large as 24"x24"x24', pass down the chain to a timber dock where they can easily be handled by a forklift.

From here the units of lumber either go to the lumber yard to be shipped as rough green, the air dry yard to be dried or to the planer complex to be surfaced.
