Twinband
The twinband resaw is similiar to the band mill at the headrig except that
there are two band saws. These saws are significantly smaller than the headrig
band saw. The slabs or cants that arrive here have been produced by the headrig during
the initial log breakdown phase. The twinband is one of the machine centers directly downstream
from the headrig. Cants from the headrig will either continue downstream to the edgers or be
passed to the twinband depending upon certain variables.
The twinbands' purpose is to further breakdown the cant prior to sending it to the edgers.
Note that the twinband requires an opening face to hold it against the line bar. Also,
since the saws are smaller, the saw kerf (cutting surface width) is much less than the headrig saw.
Smaller kerf means less wood is wasted.
