Low Speed Planer Complex
The low speed planer can surface lumber at a speed of
600 ft/min. It can handle dimension lumber as well as timbers up to 6'x16". Larger timbers
must be surfaced at the timbersizer.
As with the sorter, after the lumber exits the planer certified graders grade the lumber to determine if the board needs trimmed.
They mark the particular grade with colored chalk that is picked up by the grade mark
reader.
Pictured at the right is the outfeed from the trimmer.
After being graded and scanned by the grade mark reader, the boards pass through the
trimmer. Here a laser printer stamps a certified color grade mark on the board.
Pictured at right are timbers being pulled by hand into units.
The dimension lumber continues to the end of the chain where it is packaged into units.
A drop out, prior to the stacker, also sends lumber out to the special order
chain where it is packaged as a special order for a customer. The computer determines
when lumber is dropped out to the special table as a result of the grade mark reader.
