The Log Yard

From the woods, logs enter the sawmill by way of logging trucks where they are unloaded in the log yard. Here they are separated, scaled and transferred to appropriate log decks where they will remain until they enter the sawmill for processing.

During the peak logging season(summer months) as many as 120 truck loads per day will arrive at the log yard. Harwood Products has an intensive log acquisition program that brings logs into the mill from as far away as British Columbia and Washington state.

Here is a fir deck inventory set aside for the winter months. The deck is being watered by sprinklers to keep the logs from drying out and splitting on the ends thus reducing the amount of lumber that can be produced. The moisture in the logs also reduces costly wear on the saws.

Logs being loaded on barges in British Columbia for transport to the Branscomb mill.
