Harwood Products is a family owned-and-operated company. Art Harwood, the current president, follows his father and uncle in managing the business started by his grandfather. The Harwood family continues to live on property adjacent to the sawmill and is actively involved in community affairs. When you work for Harwood Products, you are part of the Harwood family. Opportunities for advancement exist here for capable people willing to get involved. Every opportunity is given for employees to contribute to the fullest extent of their ability. Because Harwood Products is a dynamic, growing company, promotion opportunities abound and preference is given to current employees. If you have initiative and want a place to demonstrate what you are capable of, this is the place for you. Harwood Products is committed to the principle and practice of employee involvement at all levels. An employee-led Productivity Improvement Group works to utilize the skill, experience and knowledge of the people involved in the work process to develop solutions to problems in work flow, down time, safety and quality issues. Members of these groups receive training and management support to carry out their tasks. The results of their efforts come back to them in various forms of recognition from management and their co-workers, as well as in cash bonuses. The company is committed to providing the best pay in the industry for its employees. The changing nature of the industry require more people with skills and abilities to work with sophisticated equipment and systems. If you value rural outdoor living at its best, northern Mendocino County is for you. The area around Branscomb, California abounds in wildlife such as elk, deer, bear, wild pigs, turkeys and other small game. The sawmill is bordered by the south fork of the Eel River (designated as a wild and scenic river), a major tributary of the Eel River system. The Eel River is one of the last untamed major rivers in the U.S. It offers salmon and steelhead fishing, as well as kayaking, canoeing and river rafting. The sawmill is 13 miles from the Pacific Ocean, which offers excellent sport diving for abalone, fishing from the shore and boats, and miles of isolated beaches. If you enjoy backpacking or hunting, the nearby Mendocino National Forest with the Yolla Bolly Wilderness Area (which is the head waters of the Eel River) offer virtually untouched wilderness away from the crowds. Nearby lakes such as Lake Mendocino and Clear Lake offer excellent fishing, camping, sailing, and water skiing.
